You also use the phrase Anglo-Saxon, as I know in your book you kind of, you try not to do that and you explain why. Do you want to just give us your take on that contentious phrase? Yeah, now, okay, so this is a thorny issue and it bleeds into modern politics in a number of different directions. Nobody at that point in time would have imagined themselves to be an Anglo- Saxon. That's a back projection. And it rather implies a uniform ethnic identity for the communities that were developing in southern Britain over the course of this period.
