The Press and the Inquest
There's an interesting dynamic going on tween the police and the press. Particularly, i think augustus guy, the superintendent who was leading the detective's investigation, he made a decision quite early on which was at odds with the way that many detectives were would have behaved. And generally speaking, detectives just said everything they knew. If there was a major discovery, there was usually a reporter on hand to describe exactly what it was that had been discovered. When it comes to the trial, the press actually seem to have stood back quite a lot. There is a suspect who goes on trial in this story, and there were fairly firm warnings to the press that they were not to interfere,.
