The Role of the Normans in the First Crusade
The normans played a pifotal role in the first crusade, and presumably they were honoured and praised for that round around europe as s as great martial heroes. Soso: How did views change towards the normans as the period progressed? It was partly due to the way they presented themselves and the norman historiography an but really, there wasn't much option. If you were living in conquered england, you had to come to terms with the normans. The popes call them bandits, but the popes need them in the end.
