How to Reconcile Open Borders and Vetting People Coming Into the Country

My father worked two jobs, he was a family court probation officer. He also waited tables on the weekend, my mom was a prison guard. She must have done 16 hour shifts, like for 40 days straight. How do you reconcile people that believe in law and order with those who want no bail laws even for violent felons? I don't have the answer to it.
