George White and the Holiday Investigation

White quickly rose through Anselinger's ranks, soon becoming his right-hand man. He was lauded with being the first white man to ever infiltrate a Chinese drug gang. When Holiday was released from prison in 1948, she was stripped of her cabaret license. Since every jazz club in the US served alcohol, Billie Holiday was essentially out of a job. She was reduced to holding private performances, scraping cash together for rent.
