The UK Government's Position on the Early Release Scheme

The European Court of Human Rights requires that victims and survivors have a right to effective investigations. At present, there's been broad rejection of the process by all of the main victims' groups. It's very difficult to see how it will be workable and contribute to reconciliation here. There are also concerns about former soldiers who served in Northern Ireland being prosecuted for alleged crimes committed when they were young men.
