For most of the 90s, Glastonbury Festival is associated with campaign for nuclear disarmament CND. By the end of the decade, it's associated with Greenpeace. So there are big global events that start almost rejoining individual nations anxiety about their environment. The fact that Welsh farmers had to think about radiation levels in their fields shows how joins up Chernobyl and the rest of the world was. There's also quite a conservative idea of conservation. There's quite a conservative thread of environmentalism as well.
