The first holiday camp, recognizably so, was built on the Isle of Man by a couple Joseph and Elizabeth Cunningham who ran a camp for boys linked to the Florence Institute in Liverpool. By 1910 there's something like 25 000 fish and chipshops nationwide and the biggest ones were at the seaside.
