Castles of Mediaeval Wales
Most of them were originally lime washed, which would have made them a kind of off white. The most important uses of them were where you went to pay your taxes and go to court. Mediaeval people were really litigious. And so it's this constant interaction with this big, ugly building built by the outsider that creates a kind of psychological effect. Every 20 years is a big rebellion, and you need t have that place of refuge to fight from.
