The Story of Jim Jones and His People's Temple
Jim Jones fled to his Jonestown Haven in Guyana in the summer of 1977. Despite the settlement's lack of infrastructure, supplies, or plans for the future, he encouraged his congregation to follow him there. By late 1978, the population of the settlement numbered almost 1,000. The dream of an egalitarian farm community quickly turned into a nightmare with barely subsisting on rice.
