The British overseas territory of Gibraltar lies at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. Its geographical distance from the United Kingdom has by no means lessened the cultural influence it still brings to bear. Joe Inwood was in Gibraltar to gauge the mood there, as talks were underway about the future relationship in London. He made an embarrassing mistake when he mistook Casemat's Square for a Spanish square. It got him thinking about the role and risks of the assumptions that surround the negotiations around Gibraltar's future relationship with Spain.
