Every so often there is solar activity that affects the radio carbon in trees, and that effects the tree rings. And if you know that this happened in nine 93 94, you can use it for dating. If you have a piece of wood with bark and its cut, and you can see the tree rings, you then can count the rings from the bark to find out when they were felled.
