The Crimean War and the Ukraine Conflict
The parallels between the Crimean War and the current conflict in Ukraine are enormous. The Ukrainian army is far more effective than the Russians had expected, just like the Ottoman army. We have to understand that what we're dealing with in 2023 is a Russian empire that wants to extend its control over territories that in the 1850s were part of Russia. This modern war has very much its roots firmly back in the 19th century and before then, really.
