The Importance of Interpreting Parables
Dr. Heiser: We should restrict the points for abstraction, for allegorizing in interpretation. That's another way of saying that we shouldn't abstract a parable out of its own context. Mark four said the parables were for obscuring the teaching about the kingdom of God and those who weren't following Jesus. So as such, we ought to be very wary of taking parables any further than he did.
