STT Arthritis and DZ Deformity
Zimmerman and Weiss reviewed the treatments for STT arthritis. If surgery is indicated in the presence of pre-existing DZ deformity, STT arthritis should be treated with STT arthradesis. The authors recommended restoration of adequate scaphoid length and using an ample supply of bone graft to ensure restoration of carpal realignment. They found that Type 2 lunates were far more likely to develop STT arthritis than Type 1 lunates.
