The Outline of History
New approaches to history were born out of an idea that global conflict has almost consigned us to the end of civilization. H.G. Wells argued that in light of recent global conflict it was imperative that people should learn about history not simply of their own nation. A German historian called Karl Jaspers who came up with the idea of an axial age between 800 BC and about 200 AD. Maybe we could do so again as a result, avoid world conflict as a sort of excellent side advantage.
