Is There a Conversation Between the Palace and Historical Society?
I don't get the impression that there is very much of a conversation between the palace and mainstream political historians. I mean, they tend to have their own sort of favored people. There was actually quite a sensible regime operating for a while under which a lot of intelligence related material, but also a lot of files on the Royal Family were released. Then with the passing of the Freedom of Information Act, the palace panicked and the shutters went down. And really you're back to almost pre-1993 days in which the white all-veting teams were incredibly risk averse about releasing anything,. particularly involving the Queen's views on particular matters.
