In time, she developed a human smuggling business bringing people from china to the us. The ship that ran aground in queen's new york was partially financed by her. Over the course of two decades, cheng choy pin collected a fortune of around forty million dollars. Her methods for collecting outstanding debt were violent and she had affiliations with gangs. Still, she was popular in chinatown for being relatively considerate.
