The Transgressiveness of Rod McEwen's Poetry
One of the great lessons of reporting and writing this piece was how transgressive he seemed to people coming out of the you know early to mid 60s. People who were not fully on board with the sexual revolution but who were still feeling sort of stultified by the conventional culture of the day. I mean it just feels impossible for something like this to be such a sensation right now, yet we live in the era of instagram poet Rupi Kower. There is sometimes hunger for a type of poetry that is more direct and sincere and about emotions written in verse then what's being published today.
