The Life and Times of Ramesses

Ramesses reigned for an astonishing 66 years and he was about 90 by the time he finally died. It's highly unusual in ancient Egypt for anybody to live to be 90. He certainly outlived many of his own children, and there would have been people who not only were born and died within Ramesses reign but whose children and grandchildren were also born and killed during his reign. The image of a bombastic Megalomaniac ruler that also has a very thin skin is one that perhaps we might recognise from more recent history.
