The embalmed body of vladimir ilyitch lenin was put on public display in red square in the centre of moscow. The leader of the bolshevik revolution had died three days earlier at the age of 53. His will stipulated that he be laid to rest alongside his mother in a saint petersburg cemetery, but the soviet government decided to ignore that request. Instead they enlisted an architect named alexi shuse to design and build a tomb for him. He was given just three days to complete the task bith the intention being to place the tomb next to the kremlin wall. Within the first six weeks, more than 100 thousand people visited
