Each rung that you reach with an academia, you get a little bit more status. When you become tenured, you get that stability, right? That you can't get fired. There's a lot of power that comes with not having to worry about losing your job. And there's a safety that some people can enjoy and some people do not have yet or are never going to have in that particular position.
