Du Bois and the Peace Information Center
The Peace Information Center was a short-lived, very small organization made up of Du Bois and just a couple of other individuals. Their principal goal was to publicize different movements and spread information about peace movements in the aftermath of World War II. As the atomic arms race began to heat up, the center was immediately persecuted by the federal government. But even despite them disbanding, the Justice Department charges them with a federal crime of essentially being a mouthpiece for the Soviet Union. And this is really a remarkable moment. 83 years old Du Bois is on trial by the federalgovernment, facing gears in jail.
