Socially speaking, women are nurturers. They take care of people and men go out and protect,. So to put a woman in a military uniform is kind of subversive in itself. It's not very feminine. But as the Second World War progresses, it becomes apparent that we are going to need huge numbers of soldiers. And so they really don't have a choice but to call on them for these roles.
