During the crimean war, journalists were reporting about high rates of infection and sickness. Nightingale was an unrecognized epidemiologist who studied very carefully the design of hospitals. She argued that this is actually leading to the spread of disease. The hospital become these major sites to observe infectious disease because thee soldiers are not so healthy.
