The Grateful Dead

Dave Hasinger was the group's main U.S. engineer for hit singles and albums. Garcia also knew him from working with Jefferson Airplane, as he'd engineered their album. The band didn't want to hear what a conventional producer had to say. They just went in and bashed out versions of their lives set at the time. As always they found themselves unable to let loose and improvise in the studio without the feedback of the audience.
