The Rule of Law in the Civil War
Lincoln was a rule of law guy. He viewed the constitution as the genuine rule of law and therefore the compromises in the constitution, which he thought were morally problematic. But he didn't think the compromises were great but they were the law. This is something that honestly blew me away. From a purely, you know, religious standpoint, we would almost say there's something sacrilegious about it,. But this is american political theology. And so with clay, what he wanted was to support and uphold the ongoing rule of law constitution.
