The Role of Redeemers in the Old Testament

The word for avenger is in Hebrew is goel, which is the same word that we usually translate as redeemer. So you got a guy and he accidentally killed somebody else and he's got this adventure of blood who's after him. The people of the city cannot turn this man over to the Avenger. They are to protect him until, and this is significant, until there's a trial. It's not as if he gets off completely scot free.
