Robert Dudley - The Queen's Favorite
He was married when he became master of horse. Conveniently, his wife fell down a set of stairs and died in 15 60. Many observers suspected that robert dudley had maybe had something to do with it. So they didn't marry, but he hung around as an important courtier. It was considered for 15, 16 years that they might marry, but they never did. And eventually he was moved up into more important positions. He became lord steward of the royal household,. really controlled a lot of the access to the queen. Became a privy councillor rit one of the inner circle of official advisers to the monarch. Led english forces supporting the dutch revolt
