The Risk of Failure in the Treatment of an Intertrochanteric Hip Fracture
The rates of non-union and malunion are low. However, there is a 20-30% mortality risk in the first year following fracture. Dynamic hip screw or DHS fixation of intertrochanteric hip fractures has been shown to produce good results when used appropriately.
