After the sec war it became clear that european nations could not retain th same imperial, colonial possessions. The french fought two major, ruinous colonial wars before they finally gave up the idea of having an imperial france. In the united states, only now have historians recently started to look at the relationship between world war two and the civil rights movement. And people drew a direct connection between fighting over seas and then fighting at home for liberty.
