Mao was dying, and she had to step on the gas if she was going to grab hold of the reins of power. She got her chance on April 5th, 1976, the Qing Ming holiday, grave-sweeping day. Over 300,000 people came out to Tiananmen Square that day to vent against Jiang Qing and the gang of four into mourn their fallen premiere. Yijianying, Li Xianyan, Hua Guofang and Wang Thong Xing rose to the occasion and had the gang ofFour and all their followers arrested.
