The Importance of Empathy
Paul Waldman: Empathy is a good thing, but there are cases where it pulls us back. He says that in the case of foreign aid, for example, empathy can lead to atrocities. Waldman: Terrorists exploit our fear and make us all scared, shitless. That's not fear's fault, right? It's not, you wouldn't want to blame fear for that.
