The Importance of Prayer Meetings
Mr. Berg thought animals should be protected, not because he liked them, but because it was moral. In December, 1869, Berg's favorite dog, Belcher, was killed in the dogfight at Sportsman's Hall. He attributed the loss partially to the revivalists, on his premises. It wasn't so much the praying as the singing that took hold of it. You know what your gut reaction was when you saw a rat back at those days? It might have been to eat it.
