What Is the Federal Funds Rate?
Every single line here is somewhat of derivative of the federal funds rate, which is the overnight rate that banks lend to each other. Back in the 19 eighties, obviously rates were much, much higher. And i think what this chart does a really good job of is showinga different periods in time when a monetary policy was accommodatof verses, restrictive. It has been extremely, extremely accommodative for that period of time with very, very low real rates.
