In politics, the odds that your vote will change the outcome if anything is so small you just have almost no selfish incentive to learn anything about politics. Most people in politics are not just a long list of havingno opinion but rather people who have put almost no mental effort into questions still commonly have extremely vociferous, angry, dogmatic views. This is really what gives politics its religious flavor.
