The Chief Flying Instructor of a Single Engined Aircraft
Of the 38 people on the course, 15 were going on to fighturs. The rest of the time they would fly biplanes or single engined aircraft. When did you first see a hurricane? They came out 36 hours after we landed at Montrose. We'd never seen a hurricana or split-fire plane before. It was like flying in an open sky with no clouds and lots of light. But that wastage is part of what made it so special for me. I can't remember if i've ever been more proud of my life than when i went into combat.
