The Post-Fascist Turn of the 1990s
In March 1944 the Nazis murdered 335 Italian prisoners in a site on the outskirts of Rome it was an act of revenge ordered directly by Adolf Hitler. During the 1990s there was a campaign by the right-wing press in Italy to brand the partisans who attacked the SS as a terrorist group. A Roman prosecutor even tried to bring charges against the surviving partisans. It was a grim example of the attempt to equate fascism with anti-fascism.
