Lloyd: I think one of the problems in thinking about early modern Wales is it is in the title. It is always on the transition towards something else. And so I think it is difficult to come to this period with a set of assumptions which says Wales is immediately and undeniably different from England. In fact what we have is an expression of Britishness which could be held in tension with an alongside strong advocacy for both being English, being Welsh and indeed in many cases being 'Cambro-Britain'
