The High Priest Represented the People on His Shoulders and on His Heart
The high priest was a representative of the people, and this was symbolized in his garments. On his shoulders were two onyx stones that had the 12 tribes of israel, names of them written on them. And on his chest was a breastplate made of 12 precious gems. Therefore he was a representative for his people, just as adam represented all of us.
