The battle was really more of a draw in that as night fell, both armies were still facing each other. The next day, regiments from the midlands and the london train bands demanded to go home. By the time waller started releasing these increasingly mutinous troops, heavy desertions had already devastated his ranks. And waller was now firmly convinced that local militia and part time soldiers were never going to win the war.
