A lot of prisoners who survived the Nagasaki bomb didn't say much to their family or only said it really late in life. Ron Breyer, for example, worked in the shipyards as a rivet. He had no training and just picked it up in a couple of days. Others worked in foundries making weapons. Basically, it was their job to support the Japanese military effort. Although, if they could, they would find little acts of sabotage just to slow things down. It made them feel that they were fighting the war.
