The Betrothal of Matilda
At the time of her betrothal Matilda was seven years old. She was then packed off in February 1110 when she had just passed her eighth birthday. It's not hard for us to imagine what must have been going through an eight-year-old girl's mind. To be sent away not only from her family but her country and a foreign land is something we'd call trafficking today.
