The federal opposition has sought a security briefing from the government following requests for military assistance from Gulf states under continued attack by Iran.

The Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong says the government is considering requests for protection against drone and missile attacks - but she's ruled out Australian involvement in any offensive action.
