The Political Dangers of Misinformation

Scientists are already seen as very highly competent as a group of people. So the competence dimension is not necessarily the one I think that scientists need to be concerned about. When scientists present themselves publicly as aligned with particular political positions or political actors, there's always this risk of the politicization of science. We would be well-served to recognize that because we could have more precise conversations over misinformation for certain kinds of claims.
