Is It a Key Aspect of the Story of the Normans?
Geography is very important to this story, as is trade. Maritime power ore one of the things for the normans as they move to southern italy. It's that sicily isclosely linked by trade already to north africa. That means that there need to be political relationships. They know when the zerids are getting weak. And particularly once you have a decent navy, aa and significant a a merchant power,. it's easy to maintain those links across land.
