The cervical spine may be involved in a child with polyarticular or systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Some patients may have dental findings such as dental caries and even abscesses which can affect surgery. Although it's important to routinely check for uveitis and irides, this usually is not needed preopitatively.
