Gould had a way of thinking about that where it's almost sort of to me reminiscent of like transhumanism, the idea that there is nothing necessarily essential to the human being as we have known it. And indeed, I always feel like the transhumanists would put a moral valuation on that, that human being should continue to transform or evolve in some way. So what he's saying is that even the tendency to criticize technology,. if I understood this passage correctly, even that tendency is part of the process by which we are changing.
