Alfred Pete was a Dutch American coffee importer who moved to Berkeley, California in the 1960s. Back then, coffee in the US was freeze dried in cans, or it was instant. Pete opened a coffee shop in Berkeley in 1966 that took pride in specialty coffee and tea. Three of his pupils included Gordon Bauker, Gerald Baldwin, also known as Jerry Baldwin,. Zeg Siegel, a history teacher at a public school.
