Jiang Kaixeck and the New Fourth Army
Joe returned to China in March 1940, he had a lot of good news for Mao. By August, the Red Army was planning some major offensives against Japan and North China. This became known as Pungda Hui's Hundred Regiments Campaign. So successful was this campaign that it resulted in unexpected retaliatory measures. Jiang saw the success of the 8th Rode Army beating back the Japanese,. He negotiated with Joe for the withdrawal of the New Fourth Army from south of the Yangtze.
